I saved this post when it became apparent 38 Studios forums was closing. Unless you cannot handle modding, I recommend you use this mod or the game gets stupid easy less than halfway through. As of TODAY (8.31.2016) ALL LINKS WORK. No guarantee they will work in the future.

Keep in mind. In Kingdoms of Amalur, the different regions on the map LOCK to your character's in-game level. In other words, if your character is level 5, all the creatures in the region will be set for a level 5 character. Try to finish everything you want to complete in one map region before moving to the next region.

YSA - Youngneil1 Shapes Amalur - Version 1.1 (31th of March 2012) (former HeartCore Mod version: v6) 'One day as Ysa, Ruler of the Kingdom of Summer, who slew the unseelie Lord Ohn in the Withering War, sat musing in the shadows of the Grand Trellis, he finally realized why he had done it.

The waters of the Font of Summer were running silvery through his fingers, while the Shapers in the background chanted their ever repeating verses. All had gone well and would have again and again and again - had he not broken the circle. The waters had run from the source to the sea to the source, the verses had echoed from the dying to the reborn. Ysa was the Lord of Summer and would have been forever. Nothing was threatening him, nothing challenged him. But where there can be no loss, there can be no victory.

And where there's no death, can there be life? He had to know, he had to feel the challenge again.' Welcome to the YSA Mod, dear readers, This mod is just me shaping Amalur to feel more challenging. It's only about personal preference and contains no judgement over anybody wanting more or less challenge than KOA:Reckoning has to offer in its unmodded form. This is also in no way intended to blame the devs for any balance decision I handle differently here - on the contrary. KOA:R as it is is a masterpiece of a game, an oustanding jewel and a work of love and dedication. It's full to the brim with deep lore, utterly enchanting art, rich character development and combat mechanics that are the best ever implemented in the genre of action RPG.

The best part for me though is the magic balance between open world and story guided experience that has been found here. Would I not love the game as I do, I would not have spend the dozends and dozends of hours doing this mod. This mod is a testimony of my appraisal and also a little thank you for this game, especially in the twilight period where the devs have their hands seemingly bound and cannot refine the game further despite their wish and commitment to do so.

One last word, before I get more technical: GET THE OFFICIAL GUIDE (by FuturePress)! I am not the one using capital letters usually to carry messages over, but this is the most fascinating document for a game I have read in my whole gaming life. It's an eye opener on the beauty of KOA:R. The intricate mechanics, the lore, the richness and vasteness of the world.

It will really make you appreciate much more what KOA:R is all about. Besides that, it's thick enough to be used as a kite shield and so full of art that it could fill a whole gallery. The mod does the following (you can turn off or separately manually adjust all of these values to your liking as described one post below): 1. EXP gain is down to about 40%, which let's you explore the world without ever having to fear to outlevel the enemies too fast or to become lvl 40 midgame already; especially important in order to have room for character development when exploring the Legend of Dead Kel DLC. Due to the steep nature of the exp curve this means endgame roughly a 7 level difference to what you would be in vanilla.

A very thorough, completionist player will get near lvl 40 in the maincampaign (would have outcapped in vanilla quite some time before the end of the main campaign) and should be able to reach level 40 in the Legend of Dead Kel DLC. If you should think that this is too much of an exp reduction, have a look here at Kitako's great char lvl progress map using a 50% exp reduction - without fateshifting extra exp, extra exp potions or LoDK DLC so far: 2. Doubles the damage the heroes receives 3. Halves the damage the hero does 4. Introduces soft cap for very high player damage (e.g. Due to multiplier stacking); this kicks in for damages over 1500 points and adds only 12% of the excess damage; stealth attacks follow special rules 5.

Implements extra damage mechanism against heroes with extremely high hp (again counterbalancing multiplier stacking); over 3000 hp the damage taken is multiplied with twenty untill hp drop below 3000 6. Utilizes minimum damage per hit, regardless of armor/resistances, so the hero remains somewhat vulnerable despite over the top armor/resistance values (even groups of grey mobs can be a little dangerous now); this amounts to minimum damage in the height of 3% of hero max. Health per hit 7.

Doubles the mana cost of the hero's spells and abilities; adds minimum casting/ability use cost of 10 mana, brings mana regenaration down to 33% and mana potions down to 50% 8. Reduces the sell value of items as well as the gold found to one third of vanilla 9.

Increases a paramter called 'Attack Weight' that allows more multiple attackers and stronger simultaneous special attacks at the same time (changed from 14 to 100) 10. All healing potions are at 50% effectiveness; health regeneration is only at 20% effectiveness, be it natural, by potion or by crafting 11. Game speed at 115% - still immersive and makes combat more interesting, cause you need to be more on your toes. Fatepoint gain slowed down - you will only get about 25% of the Fate Points per encounter than beforehand, later in the game even less; Reckoning Mode is a rare thing now, use it strategically. Furthermore, in order to keep a sense of loot joy and variance through your whole KOA:R adventure, I suggest manually limiting Blacksmithing and Sagecrafting to 5 points max. Ever - no matter due to which boni - as described in detail two posts below (at least for the time being; an official patch might rebalance that situation). You will get less shards and commponents this way.

This limitation to skill lvl 5 has several additional effects: you cannot craft pristine shards, rare components cannot be salvaged, no making of equiment using gems, no mastercrafting and no crafting of epic gems. This way you still can make good equipment, but the best will be the equipment looted/bought/rewarded - at least later in game. The mod for now is done in two forms: a standalone.exe and as a so called 'table', a data file with scripts, for the magnificient Cheat Engine programme, done by Darkbyte. Cheat engine - a suberb tool for changing game data stored in the memory of your computer while the game is running - is required to get the table version running. It's free, many years in use already and has thousands of users, get it here:. I was lucky that a far more experienced user named Cielos did trainer tables (making the game easier) for KOA:R which I could use as basis for both forms of YSA.

A lot of the really complicated work (it's all in (Auto)Assembler, brrr) stems from the mind of Cielos, so many kudos to him! Installation and usage of the table full version: After you've downloaded the attached full table file and also downloaded (and installed) Cheatengine, do the following: 1.

Start KOA:R, load save/begin a fresh game 2. Alt+tab to desktop 3. Start Cheat Engine.exe 4. Click the green blinking compuer icon in the top left corner of the Cheat Engine interface and choose the Reckoning.exe from that list (this attaches Cheat engine to KOA:R) 5.

Under 'file' in the menu of Cheat engine choose 'YSA v1.0.CT' and open it (locate it from wherever you saved it on your hard drive) 6. Set the checks marks in the check boxes for the new entries that have appeared in the lower area of the screen - worry not I have commented them for you in the Cheat Engine interface, it's easy (please note that the Attack Weight Freeze can only be activated after (1) you enabled the first Attack Weight component and then (2) you switched ingame from hard to medium to hard difficulty; so it's an additional round of alt+tabbing). From the right hand area of the Cheat Engine interface activate Speedhack Tool and set it to 1.15 (hit apply afterwards) 8. That's it: Alt+Tab back into your game and enjoy the new challenge Installation and usage of the standalone.exe: 1.

Press strg+number (like 1,2,3.) for the mod component (shown in the window) to activate; please press them exactly in the same order as displayed; red means activated; please note the Attack Weight Freeze requires (1) you enabled the first Attack Weight component and then (2) you switched ingame from hard to medium to hard difficulty; so it's an additional round of alt+tabbing).

You have done right when you see the Attack Weight Freeze turn red, too. Alt+Tab back into the game and enjoy. Note: The components of the standalone don't have to be used all simultaneously.

Two exceptions: you always need both exp scripts if you want to play with exp changed - selecting only one of them will not work. Also the health changes require the damage script to be activated. Thanks to Bogosity for poting this out. Also please note that the standalone.exe automatically applies the speed increase to 115%.

Please don't deactivate/reactivate scripts on a running game. A script once in memory is at some occasions only partially removed from memory, therefore relaunch both Cheat Engine/Standalone file and KOA:R itself for deactivation/reactivation operations. The YSA Mod works with existing saves, no problems.

YSA can be uninstalled as easily and without permanent effect on your savegames, too. Of course, if you change exp and save, exp remains changed though. Same for sum of gold. It has been reported that it works with Origin as well as Steam and various versions of Windows. So, chances are it will just work fine for your own system. When reshaping your fate at Fatewaevers (ie resetting skill points), you will receive massive damage which might kill you.

Best to deactivate the mod beforehand (properly exit KOA:R and Cheat Engine/standalone for that, see above). Many numbers onscreen do not reflect the changes to the underlying mechanics: damage points, fate points gained, sell prices, gold found and exp points gained all show vanilla values, while de facto they are modded. You can see the effect in the development of the resulting sums of exp, fatepoints, gold and hp, both yours and of the enemy. Also, exp gains below 16, exactly at 100 and over 10000 are not halved. Stealth kills often drop an enemy, but the enemy still has hp left.

Just do some more finish him of attacks on the body on the floor. Imagine that you come in for the coup de grace.

A fight with a very small boss enemy of the 'halfling kind' will probably require you to deactivate the mod for it. I won't go into details for the sake of spoilers - withoput deacvtivation he is reported to remain invincible behind an impenetratable barrier. Some other bosses migth start with 'half hp' on some occasions, nothing dramatic. In the very first combat after launching KOA:R with YSA you will be invincible before you have yourself scored the first hit. Come on, don't be shy and make the first move.

Many thanks to Ulthor for figuring this one out. Switching ability slots may be somewhat glitchy, e.g. When switching away from ability '1'it takes me three presses of the short cut for the targeted new ability to do the switch. Rest of the switches from/to other abilities work as intended for me. There were reports of more serious problems here - I advice not change the order of the shortcutted abilities.

If nothing else helps, please deactivate the exp scripts to fix this. While no glitch in the technical sense, the troll encounter in the tutorial might seem overly hard. It's a difficulty spike. You might want to fight him without the mod being actvie while you're still adjusting to the increased difficulty (for the records: it's possible to slay the troll with the mod active, but that requires quite an effort). Also, beware wolves. You will see.

But I have a question. Generally I like to play stealth at times and do the stealth kills, so the Finesse edition is for me, I suppose? Since a downed enemy is still classed as alive, nearby enemies will react when you do normal attacks to try and finish him/het off? I can be a bit of a perfectionist, wanting to go through a dungeon or something pure stealth.

But I wonder also if some elbaoration can he shed on the damage reduction being less efficient in this version? If I understand it, in normal combat if your damage is too high, you will kill everything in one hit as the damage reduction won't be applied?

You basically turn on cheat engine whenever you start up the game and open up Reckoning (In cheat engine so that it becomes a running process within the actual program, select the proper options the instructions provide directions to, and then start up Amalur the regular way you would through steam or whatever.

Does it just increase enemy hp, decrease your hp xp etc? Or does it alter the gameplay in other ways? The mod completely rebalances the game. Without this mod you can explore, and reach the level cap before you even do 30% of the game. This mod actually adds a whole new level of strategy to each encounter. No more mindless button mashing, and it's really easy to set up also.
