Description of American Gods by Neil Gaiman PDF “American Gods” is sexy, thrilling, dark, funny and poetic novel.
Neil Gaiman is the author of this classy novel. This book changes the way we look at the old religions. In “American Gods” he has, once again, done his research and created an attention-holding book with plenty of action, humor, and darkness.
Showing gods of the “old world” as near mortals that feed on prayer and sacrifice to survive in our new technology-driven culture is an ingenious take on religious evolution. Gaiman has a knack for taking an idea that would inundate most writers with its vastness and narrowing it down to an empathy-invoking quest of one man, Shadow Moon. The story unfolds with a man named Shadow.(a former prisoner) He is hired by an older gentleman named Wednesday. Shadow is his “go to” man, to do what he wanted to be done.
Shadow is followed by his dead wife Laura. Being dead doesn’t stop her from helping her former husband. We find out that there is a war going on. America is made up of people who came from distant lands. Countries where Gods/Goddesses were worshiped there, for centuries unending, these Deities continued to live & be strong in the Americans who brought them over with them. Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she's been killed in a terrible accident. Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, he is greeted by a strange man in the seat next to him. The man calls himself Mr.
Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible. He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same. I read the book years ago, and I loved it.
My wife is a fan of Gaiman, But this book is still in his 'to do' list. I spent all the time answering questions about what we are watching. It is simply impossible to follow if you have not read the book. Of course Gaiman's universe is weird and personal, and you don't really realise where the story is taking you until maybe half or even three quarters of the book, but you can follow the underlying story. You can follow Shadow's 'adventures' and how is slowly been involved with all Wednesday's world.
But with this TV show, it is slightly more than few unconnected nonsense scenes. There is no story to tell, it is a collection of video clips. Nothing more. After five episodes (out of eight) of the first season I don't feel the need for wait for a second season.
